At the time every year, Fresh fava beans often appear on my table. To be boiled, or fried, or stewed is a good choice. It’s a new attempt to cook porridge with fava beans. The porridge tastes not bad, cooked fava beans with a hint of fava bean fragrance, can yet be regarded as a fresh summer healthy porridge.
Ingredients: 100g fava beans; 50g rice; 50g millet
Seasoning: a teaspoon of salt
1. Clean fava beans. Rinse rice and millet together and then soak in clean water for about 15 minutes. Add water into a stockpot and bring into boiling. Then add rice and millet.
2. Cook the stockpot on high heat until boiling. Then add the cover and turn to cook on low heat. When the rice and millet are mashy, add fava beans to cook.
3. Add a teaspoon of salt and mix well. About 15 minutes fava beans are almost cooked and the porridge becomes dense and mashy, switch off the heat.
Cooking tips: if the fresh fava beans are very tender we can cook the bean peel together. If the fava beans are a little tough, we can peel off fava beans and then cook, and the taste is better. Adding some salt can not only flavor the porridge but also not make fava beans turn yellow.
